The Challenge: Keeping Kids Engaged This Christmas

As the festive season approaches, parents and teachers face a common challenge: keeping kids engaged and entertained. With the majority of consumers, 61% to be exact, looking forward to decorating for Christmas each year, it's essential to find activities that complement this enthusiasm.

Simple and accessible activities are crucial in capturing kids' attention, especially during the holiday season. Emerging color trends such as green, deep moody colors, and warm woodsy browns can inspire themes for kids' coloring pages, making them more appealing and contemporary.

Developing decor-inspired coloring pages can also bridge the gap between adult decor and kids' activities. For instance, incorporating popular decor trends like glass ornaments and metallic accents into coloring pages can add a touch of sophistication and festivity.

Some ways to keep kids engaged during Christmas include:

• Creating personalized coloring pages with trending colors like Viva Magenta
• Developing decor-inspired coloring pages that reflect popular trends like glass ornaments
• Leveraging the enthusiasm for Christmas decorating by making kids' activities a part of the overall festive experience

By incorporating these ideas, parents and teachers can create a fun and engaging experience for kids during the holiday season. At Printoodle, we understand the importance of making activities easy and accessible, which is why we provide a range of tools and resources to help create personalized and engaging content for kids. Doodle it. Done.

The Solution: Trending Christmas Colors for Colorful Fun

The crayons come out, and suddenly every tree is green and every ornament is red — but it doesn't have to be that way. The same color trends driving holiday decor in 2023 and 2025 can transform a plain coloring page into something kids genuinely get excited about.

Take Viva Magenta, Pantone's Colour of the Year 2023. It's a red-family shade described as conveying vibrancy, joy, energy, inclusivity, and self-expression — which is basically a wish list for a child's coloring session. Swapping standard red for magenta on a Santa hat, a bow, or a string of ornaments gives kids a fresh, contemporary palette to play with.

Green is having a moment, too. Christmas color trend forecasts for 2025 emphasize rich, layered palettes built around deep moody colors and warm woodsy browns, with green at the center. For kids, that translates into pine trees with depth — a mix of deep forest greens rather than one flat shade — and woodland creatures colored in cozy browns instead of default crayon-box choices.

Jewel tones round out the trend picture. Design publications like House Beautiful highlight sapphire blues, emerald greens, and ruby reds as standout holiday decor colors, often paired with metallic accents and glass ornaments that reflect light. Those shimmering, gem-like shades are naturally appealing to children, who love bold, saturated color.

Here's a simple trend-inspired palette to offer kids alongside their coloring pages:

• Viva Magenta for stockings, ribbons, and Santa's suit
• Deep forest green layered with lighter greens for trees and wreaths
• Jewel tones — sapphire, emerald, ruby — for ornaments and lights
• Warm woodsy browns for reindeer, pinecones, and sleds
• Metallic gold or silver crayons for star toppers and candle glow

The enthusiasm is clearly there. According to the Christmas Tree Association, 61% of consumers look forward to decorating for Christmas each year — and coloring pages let kids join in on that decorating excitement in their own way. Experts also note that choosing a color palette up front makes decorating easier and more enjoyable, and the same logic applies to coloring: giving kids a few suggested trending colors removes the "where do I start?" hesitation.

This is where a tool like Printoodle fits naturally. Parents and teachers can generate personalized, print-ready coloring pages in seconds — from a child's name on a stocking to a photo of the family pet turned into line art — then pair them with a trending palette for a modern twist on a classic activity. Reprints are always free, so a favorite page can be recolored in a completely different palette the next day.

Trend-aware colors won't replace the classics, but they give kids a richer, more expressive starting point — and that's half the fun.

Implementation: Creating Festive Decor-Inspired Coloring Pages

Creating charming Christmas coloring pages for kids can be both enjoyable and enriching. By tapping into the latest decor trends, you can make these activities even more engaging and relevant to the festive spirit that's sweeping the nation.

Christmas is a time when 61% of consumers look forward to decorating their homes according to industry research. To bring this excitement into kids' coloring activities, consider reflecting popular decor trends. For instance, glass ornaments are trending for their ability to reflect light and add an element of effortless elegance according to interior design experts.

To start, identify the trending colors for the season. Viva Magenta, Pantone's Color of the Year 2023, is described as a vibrant shade that conveys joy and energy according to Pantone. Additionally, rich green tones and deep, moody colors are also prominent, offering a palette that can be easily translated into festive coloring pages. For example, imagine a coloring page featuring glass ornaments with varying shades of green and silver accents.

For those looking to create festive decor-inspired coloring pages, tools like Printoodle can be incredibly useful. For instance, you could design a page with intricate glass ornaments that kids can color in using Viva Magenta and other trending hues.

To bring these ideas to life, consider the following elements:

• Glass ornaments: Design intricate glass ornament shapes that kids can color in with glittery, reflective colors.
• Metallic accents: Incorporate silver and gold elements that can be colored in with shiny markers or crayons.
• Holiday-themed backgrounds: Use rich, layered backgrounds with deep greens, warm browns, and other trendy colors to enhance the festive feel.
• Personalized touches: Add custom text or images to make the coloring pages more special and engaging for kids.
