How to make a scavenger hunt clues
- Pick the occasion, rhyming riddles or picture clues, and how many clues. Add your own hiding spots and the prize spot if you like, or keep ours.
- Print it. Page 1 is your setup sheet and answer key: it says exactly which card to hide where, so the trail always works.
- Cut out the cards, hide them (prize first, then backwards from the last card), and hand card 1 to your hunter.
Frequently asked questions
Is the scavenger hunt clues free?
Yes. Make and print as many hunts as you like with no signup. Free prints carry a small Printoodle footer; a free account removes it and saves your hunts to a library for next time.
How does the clue chain work?
Card 1 goes straight to your hunter. Its riddle points to the spot where card 2 is hiding, card 2 points to card 3, and the last card leads to the prize. The setup sheet lists every card with its hiding spot, so you can hide the whole trail in five minutes without solving a single riddle.
Can I use my own hiding spots?
Yes. List up to 14 spots in hunt order. We know over 30 common ones (fridge, oven, bathtub, couch, Christmas tree, mailbox, washer, sock drawer and more) and write a rhyming riddle for each. Any spot we don't know gets a plain "Find the ___!" card, or a sketch box on picture cards.
What if my kids can't read yet?
Choose picture clues. Each card shows a big color picture of the next spot and one simple word, so preschoolers and kindergartners can hunt on their own while you read the setup sheet.
