Frequently asked questions

Is the sight words free?

Yes. Make and print as many as you like with no signup. Free prints carry a small Printoodle footer; a free account removes it and saves every sheet to your library so you can reprint it.

What is the difference between Dolch and Fry sight words?

Dolch is 220 high-frequency "service" words in five levels, pre-primer to third grade, plus 95 common nouns. Fry ranks words by how often they appear in print, in sets of 100. Many classes start with Dolch pre-primer and primer, then move on to Fry.

Can I use my own word list?

Yes. Type up to 60 words, one per line, and they replace the list on the cards, worksheets and checklists. It works for spelling lists, theme words or the words your reading program uses.

What are CVC words?

Consonant, short vowel, consonant: cat, bed, pig, hot, sun. They are the first words children decode sound by sound. Our CVC lists only use real, kid-friendly words, grouped into families like -at and -ug so children hear the rhyme.
